SPECIAL FEATURE: Nuclear Hotseat at 800!

A look back on just a few excerpts from the first 800 <!> episodes of Nuclear Hotseat.

NOTE:  This is not an all-inclusive rundown of episodes, just a saunter through some moments that have stuck with me from the first 15-1/2 years of Nuclear Hotseat production:

  • NH #1 – The first conference call that turned into a podcast that turned into… well, all the rest.
  • NH #7 – Jon Solomon of Eden Foods on safety precautions for foods imported from Japan in the immediate aftermath of Fukushima… and FDA insufficiencies.
  • NH #91 – Dr. Helen Caldicott, 2012 Symposium on the Medical and Ecological Impacts of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident.
  • NH #423 – Church Rock uranium tailings dam break disaster – Terracita Keyanna of the Red Water Pond Road Community.  (Strong suggestion to listen to the entire SPECIAL on Church Rock.)

Terracita Keyanna of the Red Water Pond Road Community on Navajo Nation,
near where the Church Rock uranium tailings pond spill happened.
“Leetso Dooda” in Navajo means “No uranium.”

  • NH #205 – Sister Megan Rice shortly after her release from two years in prison for participating in a non-violent peace protest of nuclear weapons at the Oak Ridge Y-12 “high security” nuclear facility in Tennessee.
  • NH #407 – Three Mile Island: My Trip Back.  Radiation dispersion after the meltdown with Arnie Gundersen of Fairewinds Energy Education.

Nuclear Hotseat’s Libbe HaLevy at the commemoration sign across from Three Mile Island

  • NH #316 – Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons passage – Prof. Heidi Hutner, interviewed from the United Nations less than one hour after the passage of the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons.
  • NH #800 – Linda Pentz Gunter with this week’s Nuclear Hotseat Hot Story: Trump is sending Saudi Arabia little nuclear bomb kits. Some in the Senate object.
  • NH #749 – Dr. Helen Caldicott on how she almost convinced Pres. Reagan to get rid of nuclear weapons.
  • NH #731 – Dr. Gordon Edwards on uranium enrichment and how Iran can actually create nuclear weapons based on their current enriched levels.
  • NH #743 – Tanya Maus of the Wilmington College Peace Resource Center on their 50th anniversary celebration staged reading of Libbe HaLevy’s play ATOMIC BILL AND THE PAYMENT DUE.

Ollie Basta, playing the lead role of podcaster/activist Jessie Keever, addresses a rally at the United Nations at the climax of ATOMIC BILL AND THE PAYMENT DUE – Wilmington (Ohio) College Peace Resource Center, Sept. 9, 2025.
