Mission Statement
The Mission of Nuclear Hotseat is to pursue truth, provide context, and demand accountability.
I seek to present accurate, current, and meaningful information about nuclear weapons, reactors, radioactive waste, uranium mining, nuclear manufacturing, health impacts, and other nuclear issues of concern. Through news, expert interviews, and an explicitly oppositional perspective, Nuclear Hotseat seeks to support the groups and individuals working to challenge nuclear weapons and the nuclear industry in all its forms — including taxpayer bailouts to for-profit nuclear corporations and the production, handling, and disposal of radioactive materials.
The perspective may be oppositional. The facts cannot be.
To that end, I pledge:
- I will clearly distinguish between verified fact, expert analysis, allegation, uncertainty, and opinion, so that listeners can trust the information to be as accurate and current as possible.
- I will interview experts who can explain the complexities of nuclear stories and go beyond superficial or incomplete coverage to provide a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the issues.
- I will provide context and continuity, so that individual facts, incidents, and developments can be understood as part of larger patterns. I'll strive to connect the dots.
- When I make mistakes, I will issue corrections and retractions promptly. When I get it wrong, I will admit it.
- I will do what I can to keep the activist community in good heart. To that end, I will use humor whenever possible — not to minimize the seriousness of nuclear issues, but to help sustain the people doing the difficult work of confronting them.
Above all, Nuclear Hotseat will strive to be a source of information, perspective, accountability, and resilience — without ever compromising the integrity of the information in the service of the cause.
